Inspiring Success Stories: Real People, Real Achievements

Success stories have the power to inspire, motivate, and uplift us, reminding us that with determination, hard work, and perseverance, anything is possible. You are not alone. We wanted to share a few of our favorite stories from our first year of practice. These patients have overcome challenges, worked hard, and achieved remarkable accomplishments. These vision therapy success stories serve as a source of inspiration and encouragement for anyone struggling with symptoms they don’t understand. There is hope and we can work with you. You’ve already taken the first step on your journey to better vision just by starting to research!

Arianna

This young patient loved reading and excelled at school, but she started noticing double vision when she was reading. Her other symptoms included clumsiness, dizziness, headaches, eye rubbing, and nausea (especially when reading in the car). She wanted to be able to read as much as she wanted and get through the day without feeling sick. She had glasses prescribed, but they weren’t helping at all.

We discovered that she had binocular vision dysfunction (when your eyes don’t point to the same place) and accommodative insufficiency (eyes don’t focus).

“Arianna’s seen noticeable differences in headaches, nausea, dizziness, and vision overall since beginning vision therapy. We cannot thank Dr. Jesse enough- he saved us! We were tossed around to eye doctors that were trying to band-aid the issue and not getting to the problem. Dr. Jesse found additional therapies that helped Arianna and got to the root of the issue and made sure all her issues were cleared up and treated. We love him! We’ve never experienced a more caring doctor.”

Key Takeaways:
  • The daughter had been experiencing symptoms for 3 years before telling mom – check in with your kids. Vision problems can easily go unnoticed, since many don’t have obvious signs.
  • Most people don’t associate nausea with vision, but if your vision isn’t functioning correctly it can cause headaches and upset stomachs – especially motion sickness.
  • It isn’t always just vision. Our bodies are complex and one unit. Dr. Jesse also suggested she see another professional to help with other symptoms.

Logan

Logan got glasses in January, but was still struggling to read and see the board in the spring. When he got tired, he had double vision. He’d always liked reading, but struggled with comprehension. They noticed he’d get sick when riding in the car.

We saw Logan and found that he had esotropia (when one eye points in towards the nose) and deficient saccadic eye movement (accurate rapid eye movements, moving the eyes from word to word on a page). He had almost no depth perception in the beginning, but by the end he had full depth perception.

“Our son was referred to Dr. Jesse because he was often complaining about double vision and would often hold books close to his face.. Now, thanks to these vision therapy sessions, he’s shown huge improvement and no longer sees double. He’s able to read much easier! Logan has always loved reading so this has been a huge improvement for him. The whole team at BOV is friendly, kind, and accommodating — and so wonderful with kids. Dr. Jesse went out of his way to keep my son engaged and progressing.”

Key Takeaways:
  • Glasses don’t fix all vision problems. They may just help people see 20/20 if someone is nearsighted or farsighted. We have more than 20 skills we need to see, read, pay attention, and live life unimpeded.

AJ

AJ’s teachers noticed that he was starting to fall behind in reading at school. He was a smart kid, but they suggested further testing because he was skipping lines, dropping words, and rubbing his eyes when reading. His first optometrist said that his eyes were fine, but mom talked to an OT who suggested Brighter Outlook Vision for a deeper dive.

AJ visited our office and was diagnosed with convergence excess (ability to point the eyes quickly and accurately at different distances while maintaining single vision), deficient saccadic eye movement (accurate rapid eye movements, moving the eyes from word to word on a page), and deficient smooth pursuit eye movement (smooth eye movements tracking a moving target, like a ball through the air).

“Our son was having difficulty with reading. He was unable to read left to right without dropping lines, losing his place, and dropping the end of words. Improvement was slow, but now he reads every night independently two chapters from a chapter book. He used to struggle to finish a page. We are so grateful for Jesse at Brighter Outlook Vision.”

Key Takeaways:
  • Just because a child is struggling with school or reading, does not mean they are incapable. They could have a vision problem physically getting in the way.
  • Most children love to read. If they don’t, they probably are seeing double or the words seem to move on the page.
  • They weren’t worried about sports, but AJ was better able to catch a ball after vision therapy. This could open up new hobbies if your vision isn’t getting in your way!

These success stories highlight the incredible journeys of individuals who refused to be defined by their circumstances and instead pursued answers to get help. Each patient completed their program of vision therapy and saw marked improvement.

Their stories serve as a reminder that no obstacle is insurmountable and that with perseverance and belief in oneself, we can achieve great things.
