What to Expect at Your First Vision Therapy Session
It can be scary for children to start something new! Even as an adult, I feel more comfortable if I know exactly what to expect. So our Branch Manager Posey walked us through what a first vision therapy session appointment would look like so that you can prepare for your first day!
👋🏻 Welcome! When you come in our Patient Care Coordinator will say hi and let the doctor know that their new favorite patient just arrived.
👨🏼⚕️Dr. Jesse and your vision therapist will come to the front to take you back to the vision therapy rooms, this is where the fun happens!
📸We usually start by taking a picture (if you want) and setting goals.
🕶Vision therapy lasts 30-40 minutes, and usually consists of 2-4 activities that will help improve your vision problem. Dr. Jesse or your vision therapist will be with you each step of the way explaining and guiding.
🏆If everything went well and you worked hard, you get to choose a prize from our treasure drawer!
📝Everyone gets a little bit of homework. If you are coming once a week to therapy we suggest doing the homework 10-20 minutes a day, 4-5 times a week.
✌🏽Toodles! We will see you next week and do it all over again, for as long as your program lasts. We look forward to getting to know you and help your vision.
Optometric vision therapy is a program of progressive visual procedures, individualized to fit the needs and goals of each patient, and performed one-on-one with the doctor or doctor-supervised vision therapist. It is usually conducted once or twice weekly with supplemental home support activities between office visits. Throughout the doctor-led program, vision therapy teaches your brain to better communicate with your eyes to more efficiently navigate your world.
